6 Quick Steps to Glue PVC Pipe

A lot of people often have problems how to glue pvc pipe. And they need a quick and easy solution. If you are one of those people, then this article is for you! In the following paragraphs I will provide 6 quick steps how to glue PVC pipes in just a few minutes. You can use these steps with any type of PVC pipe such as flex or rigid pipes, or even metal pipes.

Quick Steps to Glue PVC Pipe

1. Cut a length of PVC pipe to the desired size

Before bonding them together, make sure you have all the pipes at desired size.

Check out these questions:

  • How much you need and how long it should be
  • What type of blade cutter you’ll use: saber, band or jigsaw
  • Where on the pipe would you want to start cutting in order not to waste any material (should be at least an inch from one end) – this could make the difference between having enough left over for another project and being short by half an inch

2. Apply primer to inner side of female piece and outside of male piece

The primer can help with sticking pvc pipes together, it creates a layer of material that will make gluing easier as well as seal any gaps in between both pieces.

How much primer would be needed? There is no general rule how much primer to use, so it’s best to apply a small amount and see how the pipes will stick together.

3. Apply glue to both ends of the pipe

You should use a thick consistency of the adhesive for pipe joints – make sure it’s slightly more liquidy than paste but thicker and wetter than water.

In order to create this consistency, mix about two cups of paint thinner with one cup of resin then stir until smooth and let sit for at least five minutes before applying.

4. Hold firmly in place for a few minutes until the glue cures

A good way of doing this is by using clamps, if there are no clamps then use some heavy objects like books or bricks; also the key for how long it takes until the adhesive cures depends on temperature and humidity so make sure these conditions are right before gluing anything together.

Give at least 30 seconds to make sure it cures enough, but depending on various factors such as weather condition your timeframe may vary from five minutes up to two hours.

5. Clean up any excess glue with water and dry thoroughly before using

You should use a wet rag and clean up any excess; also this step is optional but recommended – what I did was wiped down the surfaces with warm water and then dried it as best possible before using, in order for everything to be sealed properly by the primer.

It’s important to have all materials either cleaned or covered so there are no accidents waiting to happen (just in case anything spilled out of one end or if something dripped from the other side)

6. Repeat steps 1-5 if there are different pipe connections

After doing the first two joints apply more primer and then continue with step three.

For every connection I glued together on my last joint, I used the previous one’s adhesive and primer but instead of having clamps or heavy objects holding it down for me while drying (which would be dangerous) we just had some books weighing them down so they’ll dry safely.
